In third grade, I won my first award for reading! The award for most books read by a student that year rested on every Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mystery found in our school library! However, I was already an avid reader by then. From the label on the salt box to the instructions accompanying new toys and kitchen gadgets, I read them all.

 

That fascination with words is still an integral part of my being.  Whether writing for myself or guiding others through the writing process, I have been studying the impact of words most of my life. From the funky cadence that makes one laugh aloud to the emotion-laden sentences that make readers hold their breath, words are magical.
